GWLN in conjunction with HOLD (Humanitarian Organization for Lasting Development) has submitted a $40k grant application to IMPACT GIVING. Poverty, ignorance, culture and stigma are linked to unwed/single mothers in the Congo.
HOLD is a Congolese led vision that we have been involved with. Modestine, the Congolese Director, seeks to integrate teen moms and their children, who have experienced rape, sexual abuse or violence. To date there have been 897 women in seven cohorts who have graduated from the six month state-certified job skill training in the city of Goma. These graduates are highly committed to improving their own lives. Many return to their home villages because they know they will be successful in providing services.
